When the world went into lockdown mode during the pandemic, we found ourselves looking for things to do. One of our favorite go-to activities is playing with LEGOs. It also happened that the show LEGO Masters was on, so my kids were inspired to do more with LEGOs. When I was writing this book, they created this village of LEGO buildings they dubbed "Blocky City" and they crowned their stuffed animal cat "Princess Kitty" who ruled over this city.
Besides free play with LEGOs, they make wonderful tools for teaching. They can be used to teach math, engineering, and science.
Learning Fractions

Using different colored LEGOs as math manipulatives, you can teach the concept of parts to a whole. After this skill is mastered, you can introduce the concept of adding these fractions. The LEGOs provide a wonderful visual aid to be able to demonstrate fractions in a tangible way.
Building Square Numbers and Arrays

You can use LEGOs to create arrays. Arrays are a great visual representation to show multiplication and area.

Marble runs are such fun. Kids love to watch marbles race down ramps, and it's even more fun if you build two dueling marble runs to see which one finishes first. See more details about this LEGO version here.
